THE CHORD COMPANY CHORDOHMIC PLUGS TERMINATE CHORD CABLES

The Chord Company's new silver ChordOhmic plugs are now a feature on all factory cables and are available separately, too

Following their debut at Sound and Vision in February and production debut at Festival of Sound last weekend, Chord Company's innovative new ChordOhmic silver-plated loudspeaker plugs are now shipping with all factory-terminated loudspeaker cables from the Wiltshire specialist's range.

Chord Company's ChordOhmic silver-plated loudspeaker plugs have drawn on the company's 33-year history in UK cable design and manufacturing. The new connectors are engineered to bring both the electrical and sonic benefits of silver to speaker cables.

ChordOhmic offer the proven conductivity and signal-preservation benefits of silver backed up by the UK market leader's legendary build quality. The ChordOhmic plugs are so highly trusted that they are fitted to everything from the entry-level C-Screen (£5 p/m) to the flagship ChordMusic speaker cable (from £3,300). They are also available separately to enhance both Chord Company and other brands of speaker cable; £8 (banana) and £25 (spade) each.

Isn't gold king?

Although gold is generally perceived to be the best plating material for high-quality connectors, its only significant advantage is its total resistance to corrosion (which is not usually a domestic issue). Gold also takes the bronze medal in conductivity being outperformed by both copper (+140% better) and silver (+148% better). Better conductivity means lower resistance and, therefore, less signal loss. Less signal loss means increased performance, as expressed by Ohm's law, hence the name of Chord Company's new speaker plugs.

Crucially, silver-plating not only makes sense from an electrical point of view, but Chord Company also found it gave an audibly superior result during when compared with gold-plated connectors in its extensive listening tests.

High-quality ABS is used to construct the ChordOhmic plug body with the plugs themselves being machined in the UK from a high-quality brass alloy sourced from Germany. Also manufactured in the UK are the metal contact pins (4mm banana). Interestingly, precision lathes more commonly employed in machining watch parts and high-tech Formula 1 components are brought into play for those parts. The silver-plated spade connectors are constructed from a pure copper bar which is heavily plated with silver to give the optimum contact and can be supplied in any multiples.

Price and availability

ChordOhmic speaker plugs are available now fitted to all factory-terminated Chord Company speaker cables. They are also available separately, priced at just £8 (banana) and £25 (spades) each.
